Puslinch Flyers Enter Semi-Finals

March 15th 1956.

 

Puslinch Flyers defeated Moulton last night in a 3-2 thriller at the Dunnville arena in ORHA play-downs, thus winning the round two games to one.

 

Goal scorers for Puslinch were Pete Springall, Joe Steffler, and Ernie Holm.

 

Puslinch will now advance into the semi-finals, in which their opposition is not as yet known.

 

The Puslinch team is the same squad that performs in the Hespeler Industrial Hockey League.

Puslinch Flyers Blank Sheffield 12-0

March 29th 1956.

 

Puslinch Flyers are one game up in the ORHA semi-finals when they blanked Sheffield 12-0, in the Hespeler arena Tuesday night, Art Bruce getting a well-earned shutout.  Goal scorers for Puslinch were Harry Holm, 6 goals, Ernie Holm, 3 goals, Pete Springall, 2 goals, and Don Eldred, 1 goal.  The next game will be on this coming Saturday night at the Galt arena at 8:30.  This is a best of five series.

Puslinch Flyers Enter ORHA Finals

April 5th 1956.

 

Puslinch Flyers turned on the power in the third period on Tuesday night to defeat Sheffield 13-7, taking the best of 5 ORHA semi-finals, three games to none.  The game was played in the Hespeler arena.  Puslinch will now enter the ORHA finals against a team from St. Thomas district.  The dates for the series have not yet been set.

 

Harry Holm paced Puslinch with eight goals, E. Holm, three and P. Springall and G. Frosch, one each, with assists given to D. McRobbie, M. Bain, J. Steffler, P. Springall, E. Holm, G. Frosch, and H. Holm.

 

As the ice has now been taken out of the Hespeler arena, Puslinch will play their home games at the Preston arena.

Puslinch Flyers Celebrate at Banquet

May 24th 1956.

 

The Puslinch Flyers Hockey team was honoured on Friday evening in the Canadian Legion Hall, Hespeler, at a Rural Hockey banquet, put on by a number of their admirers for their success during the hockey season.  About one hundred sat down to enjoy the banquet.

 

Fred Eldred was chairman and thanked the many people who helped during the year.

 

M. Bailey presented the North Wentworth Hockey trophy to Ernie Holm, captain of the Puslinch Flyers.  R. Schmidt spoke in behalf of the Industrial League in which the team played as well as the rural league.

 

Ross Fewster from Ingersoll was guest speaker and William Main of Sheffield also expressed congratulations to the team.

 

Those at the head table were Fred Eldred, William Main, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Fewster, M. Bailey, Ernie Holm, and R. Schmidt.

 

Mrs. Charles Clynick was the convener for the banquet.  She was assisted by Mrs. James Brown, as Head Waitress, and their helpers, Mrs. Lorne Walker, Mrs. Peter Springall, Mrs. Ernie Holm, Mrs. Dorothy Maskotjohn, Mrs. A. Kraeger, Mrs. A. Bruce, Mrs. Chester Brown, Mrs. George McBain, Mrs. Fred Eldred, Mrs. Wm. Eldred, Mrs. George Steffler, Miss Isabell Clemens, Miss Janet Kraeger, Miss Charlene Frosch, and Miss June McMillan.

 

Members of the Puslinch Flyers hockey team are Manager — Charles Clynick, Captain — Ernie Holm, Coach — Fred Eldred, Secretary — Peter Springall, Assistant Secretary — Harry Holm, Joe Steffler, Goal — Arthur Bruce, Glenn Frosch, Murray McBain, Peter Parks, Douglas McRobbie, Donald Eldred, Albert Kraeger, Chester Brown, and David Peel.  The team and many friends journeyed to Puslinch Lake where Mr. and Mrs. Charles Siefert, at Barber’s Beach, entertained them at a dance in their beach hall.
