Baseball & Garden Party Attraction for Many Yesterday Afternoon

Yesterday afternoon and evening a combined ball tourney and garden party was held in Freelton under the auspices of the Methodist Church.  There was a crowd of over four hundred present during the afternoon, which increased towards evening to six or seven hundred.

The afternoon program was somewhat late in getting under way and it was two thirty before the umpire called play ball.  Flamboro Centre and Carlisle provided the first game, which was won by the former 5-3.  Flamboro scored once in the third and once in the fifth.  Carlisle took the lead in the sixth when they scored three runs.  Flamboro came right back with three runs in the seventh when Willis hit a home run with two on bases.  The teams lined up as follows:

Flamboro Centre:

Harris — left field, Johnstone — catcher, Willis — centre field, Young — right field, Cummins — 3rd base, Glavin — pitcher, Metzger — left field, Stewart — 2nd base, Tuck — short stop.

The second game was between Flamboro Centre, winners of the first round, and Kirkwall.  It was also a seven-inning game.  Kirkwall started off well by getting two in the first, but in their half, Flamboro Centre rang up four counters before a put-out was made.  At the end of the fourth inning the score was tied six apiece.  Both teams failed to score in the fifth and sixth.  In the seventh, Kirkwall went out in order but in Flamboro Centre’s half of the final frame, they secured two hits which accounted for the winning run.  The teams lined up as follows:

Kirkwall:

M. Jamieson — centre field, H. Hood — left field, V. Hood — pitcher, Warner — short stop, Harvey — 3rd base, Watson — catcher, Stewart — 2nd base, Nichol — first base, G. Jamieson — right field
